Big farming projects in Africa

We are watching from a few years to now a big desire for big farms.

Probably behind there are a lot of  goverments looking for a need of food if necesary. Also I have seen some big BIOFUEL companies investing a lof of money into big projects in Africa.

Farms of 20.000 Ha are usual for BIOFUEL production. The projects are complex. In example, a project I designed for Gambia, for a 20.000 ha farm. The company will plant trees but in lines  separated 3 metres. in that space, the company will plant maize for 5 years, and after nothing. Combine harvester need to me compact and small, and if possible with AXIAL system or TAF such as Crop Tiger from CLAAS.

Working for this projects are complex. We have as China as producer of very cheap combines, not very competitive machines, but cheap.

In my opinion, this should be focused from other side, creating small enterprise with small machinery working these enormous farms. This will generate profit for everybody.

100% of economic discarge, with benefices for renting machinery

100% free of mechanical problems in the machinery.

a work for the local people who can buy small machines and work for these farms.

a profit market for small micro credits for all the finance system around, or World Bank if we have not got bank local bank around.

  2. We hope India is also producing cheap and small, compact but with good performance some basic crops like rice, wheat and corn. However, you may not get machinery from India for all operations but for some they have done really well. The prices can be anything low. See India for possibilities.
